zone schemes against 33 or 53

Some HS OL can have trouble figuring out the stack lbrs and who has who and is he playside or backside coach? If you can just get them to RUN they will be fine. Depending on what kind of zone scheme you are using it can be very effective against a 3-3 team. In a true zone scheme with no folds, the double teams need to last as long as possible of course, but the stack lbr allows for the lbr to attack either playside or backside gap quickly. It is important to make sure that the ol have their eyes on the right lbr in the first place, and then be in a position to chip off onto him if he is coming through their gap. Four hands on the down guy, four eyes to the next backside lbr. The key is to still just RUN. With a 3-3, the head up dl will go one way or the other usually so you might not even get a doulbe team, just stay on path and be ready. Staying square when doubling is also a key point. If the bsol is turning his body and the lbr comes through the bs gap that they are zoning he cannot turn in time to get there. When he is square he can at least "fall off" and get a chunk of him. For a more full zone style rather than the vertical push zone style described above, the ol would really have to stay on track and RUN.

well, we use the exact same blocking scheme for the stretch (outside zone) and the zone (inside zone) with the ol and the two te's

we have use the two te one back system with fairly tight splits using this system, along with our favorite play: the counter, we have had some decent success with it, even when facing 8-9 man fronts because we simply could not find any one to throw the ball, and at times were limited for "certain reasons" to not throwing the ball

the basic rule for our ol was playside, on, backside, anything else

P=man in playside gap= zone step aim for backside nipple, shoot hands through it, work your butt to stay square
O=on=45 degree six inch zone step with playside foot-aim shooting hands to the ps nipple
B=backside gap=straight step with playside foot-shoot hands onto backside nipple
A=anything else, when in doubt RUN playside and hit anything that gets in your path

makes it very very easy to teach who to get and what to do with them when you get to them,, the main thing they have to do is make sure that both ol in the combo are looking at the next bslb and not at the guy they are blocking

this is more of a true double team vertical and horizontal movement style of zone blocking, with the splits being kinda tight, the zone can be hard for some backs to read because the holes created by it are not always horizontal, vertical seams are created as well with the movement that the double teams bring.


the more true full zone style that teams like Iowa use where they bucket step and crossover and widen the defensive players out that way emphasize the RUN part of it just as much
