Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I use a standard line split of 2 feet across the front. Like to widen the splits when running inside and like to tighten the splits when going outside. My players learn to adjust their splits according to the block required on the play. Coach CAmpbell
One of the biggest differences I encountered in moving to Florida was the line splits. I had been used to using 2 feet for the guards and 3 feet for tackles and tightends. Similar to Coach Cambell we used the Bear Bryant rules on line splits. When I first Moved down to Florida I amazed at the small splits most schools use down here. Only in the last year or so am I starting to see schools open thier splits up. Personally I like large splits especially when running the option, since this seems to be the number one H.S. offense you would think most schools would follow suit. I am continually amazed at teams with 6 inch splits and calling their offense a Winged T. I am sure Coach Raymond would vomit. The key is being displinced and consistant.
We use 2 foot line splits all the way across. We run tight formations and spread formations using these splits. Like Coach Campbell's players, sometimes our players will modify their split based on having to make a reach or pull. I know they don't do this intentionally because we don't teach it, but it seems to work for them and opposing defenses haven't seemed to catch on.
Does anyone play with/adjust the OL splits based on thier opponent? If they are really big in the DL spread them out, if they blitz alot tighten them up? If you really want to run inside get a little wider and displace the defense?
