Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I am having a little trouble digesting the information I have been getting at clinics regarding this play. As a new head coach I am looking to add this to the offense, however the rules change depending on who you talk to. What do you all use a rules and guides for the OL. I know the "near ear" rule and "don't pull a covered man". However, other schools pull no matter what and it seems to work. Finally we see some double eagle....pro set----9 on the TE, 3 on the tackle uncovered, PSG - 3, center O, BSG - 2, BST - 5...LB's in 30 tech....what do we do. Thanks
Stay with the covered and uncovered rules. Vs the Double eagle front the TE base reach the 9, PS Tackle will step towards the 9 tech, if he does not see the near hip show, he attacks upfield to the lber. PS guard base reach on the 3, center and backside guard combo to bs lber, and the bs tackle will crossover cut the 3. It is not the best front to run the play, the cut back is not great. We run the stretch play vs double eagle.
TE Base reach 9, PS tackle skip pull to force player, PS guard base reach, center skip pull for PS lber, bs guard and tackle crossover cut 1 man over.

We picked this technique up from the offensive staff out at South Dakota State. Once they introduced it to us, we started to see how other teams were using this techniques on their pulls for stretch and tackle trap.
When we teach the skip pull we want the athlete to drop step with the foot away from the direction he is going to pull. The drop step is basically a crossover step behind the playside leg. Make sure he is getting depth and distance on the drop step. The reason for this tech. rather than turn and run is it keeps their shoulers square to the LOS and it allows them to see the lbers on any run throughs.
With the center the skip pull is a little different. He basically can only drop step for depth with very little distance on the backwards crossover. He can still do it, we rep this almost everyday in our pre-practice.

Dear coachjd, I am responding to your response to HoltzHoltz question. I am confused, if you block the play the way you describe then aren't you going agains the "don't pull a covered man rule"? Also what is considered the primary or most important combo when you have three covered lineman in a row. Example Pro Formation--TE- 9, PST - 5, PSG - UNCOVERED, C - HEAD-UP, BSG - 3, BST - 5. TE will base, tackle will base, guard will L-step and look for PSLB, now what? Cente and BSG Ace or is the Deuce more important. Please help I am a little confused. HosHos
