I was recently the interim HC at our school for nearly four months. When I assumed that role I focused on getting the kids in the weight room and discipline. I got our staff working hard and our kids working even harder! I was told by everyone at our school that it was my job to lose. The principal told me this, the AD was in my corner, the kids wanted me to be the HC as well as the coaches. Well to make a long story short, I didn't get the job. The principal told me that I did everything right and that the decision wasn't based on me, but the fact that he was getting pressure from his boss to hire someone from outside. However, they strung me along for four months and "led me to the water" but then they caved under pressure. I know I am marketable and can get a new job, but I want to know if you would go back, having felt betrayed. Can you work for someone when you feel they aren't loyal to you and the hard work you do?
I was in the same boat a few years ago. I made the decision to leave. I loved the school and had worked very hard at the job there, but I could not get over the fact that while I had been very loyal to that program, the program was not loyal to me. Luckily for me, a very good job became available, and I took it.
Q: Can you work for someone when you feel they aren't loyal to you and the hard work you do?
A: NO... go somewhere where your talents and hard work will be appreciated. You'll NEVER be happy at that school ever again! Good luck and God bless, and I can sympathize, b/c I've been where you've been too.

These gentlemen are giving you good advice. It's about piece of mind. What ever you decide, just make sure that you can live with the decision. Similar situation. I knew they wanted to go outside. They did and I decided to give it one year. It took time to adjust, but I'm glad i stayed because they brought in a good coach, who let's us work. If he wasn't the type of person i could work with I would have left. The school appreciated my loyalty and has taken care of me. If this guy leaves I will have a better chance for the job. If not, I will probably leave, because 2 is the charm.
Look at what your goals are as a coach and your family situation. If it is to become a head coach than now you have head coaching expereince on your resume if it is not then stay. If you can use your interm headcoaching expereince to get a head coaching job some other place then why not?
