Guys, Anybody ever hear or read about this type of defense?
The defense has an unusual approach for the D-Line. The 4 "down" linemen were coached to "control" their "1 yd. square box" for the first 3 seconds of EVERY play. This defense is based around the outside linebackers supplying the "pressure" for the pass rush and/or outside ground game. The D-linemen were expected to hold their ground and stop inside stuff first and then break through and pursue or pass rush.
The four DL either hit-n- pinch or hin-n-hold ground.
Anybody know where I can get info on this "philosophy" on defense.
I've never heard if that defense. I believe when they say hold you ground they do not mean fall on the ground. You can run a very sound gap controlled one square yard of dirt defense with out making your players lie down
