Just got the HC job and here it is April. This is my first HC job and I just wondered if anyone would reply some advice. What are my next steps? I have some ideas but I'm just comparing notes. If you would offer your plan for the next couple of months that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Parent letter to all players, team meeting discussing weights to end of school and summer schedule. Interview assistants, get in principal's ear about any job postings to fill holes in your staff... paint the locker room a new color, playbooks, clothing ... it keeps going...
i suggest carrying around a pad and a pen and write everything that comes to mind as your day progresses... at the end of the day, organize the next days tasks... and keep making notes on progress..
Make sure you know EXACTLY how you want your program run, get that across to your players immediately, and stick with what you want through all the adverse times that first year. Don't worry if you lose players because of it. Run the program YOUR WAY. Because when you win YOUR WAY, there is no better feeling in the world. I wish you luck, and if you need more specifics, please let me and the other 2700 coaches on this website know.

I would also make sure your staff is on the same page also. Make sure before they want to change things that they first learn your way because you know what you want, you must have a plan for success. Loyalty is a key to all this. Coach Campbell
Thanks coaches. All your suggestions are excellent. I appreciate and value all of your opinions.
One of my first orders of business just happened to be ordering new footballs. Does anyone have a favorite? The school I'm leaving used a Rawlings ST5. Not bad. But haven't seen many others before.
Use the football that your state uses in the state championship game. There's no sense to using a different ball, b/c you'll only have to switch anyway.
