Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are slowly but surely falling in love with the midline, inside and outside veers from the flexbone formation.
So - now we turn to the experts ... our coaching peers with the following:
1. Read rules for midline, IV and OV 2. Differences in read rules for midline, IV and OV 3. Perimeter blocking adjustments 4. Interior blocking adjustments
Thats plenty for now ... we will look forward to you rvaried responses.
I'm going to tell you how to run the midline. Coach Campbell is the expert, but I'm a simplicity freak, and I'll show you my way. Midline blocking rules PSE- Stalk BSE- Cutoff PTE- Block out (if 6-man front block on) PT- Block 1st DL past read. PG- Inside linebacker or safety. C- On or 1st man backside BG- Cutoff BT- Cutoff BTE- Cutoff Lead Back- Block 1st playside linebacker. Go outside the read key. Pitch Back- Run pathway through fullback's keeping pitch relationship four to five yards in front of QB. FB- Run midline pathways and mesh w/QB for give or disconnect. QB- Read 1st down lineman from shade to outside. Clear step back and away so fullback can run his pathway. If disconnect, replace 1st down lineman and run to daylight. Look to pitch downfield if necessary.
Inside Veer PSE- Stalk BSE- Cutoff\ PTE- Block 1st inside linebacker. PT- Combo w/ guard to 1st inside linebacker PG- On or Combo w/Center to backside linebacker C- On or Cutoff BG- Cutoff BT- Cutoff BSE- Cutoff FB- Run path through outside hip of guard-mesh w/ gentle squeeze and read blocks. QB- Step at four or eight o'clock-mesh-gather read-explode out and attach inside of pitch key. Pitchback- Run pathway through fullback's alignment. Keep pitch relationship four yards in front of QB.
Coach, I hope this helps. If you can help ME with outside veer, I'd appreciate it. I may or may not run it this year. I'm researching it now. Good luck.

Coach Cella I don't reminder trying to coach the midline in a complicated way. Coach follow the rules that I have established with the midline and you will be just fine, don't reinvent the wheel. Coach CAmpbell
I dont know what Coach Campbell's rules are. But if i were to write you my rules down, they would be exactly the same rules as Coach Cella. We run this very effectively. The only thing i tell the TE to do is to block #4, which usually referes to SS or OLB. For example, against a 50 look, the PST will be covered (and that is the read, or #1 Lineman), then he will step out and block #2, the DE, then the TE will arc release to #4, The playside lead back will release and lead through on #3, the ILB.

Coach Campbell has forgotten about more football than I'll ever know, and has taught me more about football and how to run a program than any coach with whom I've been associated. However you teach the midline, make sure you have a SYSTEMATIC way to teach it to your kids. And that last statement comes from the one and only Coach Campbell. Good luck running Coach Campbell and my favorite play. You have to love a play where you don't have to block a defensive tackle. I wish you luck.

We found Coach Campbell's system very simple. We read the first past the guard and block the near ear pushing vertical to linebackers. The complementary plays are what really make the midline go. Falcon, Army, Navy, Follow Opposite, Give, and Iso are great!
