Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We used 6-3-2 against it and only gave up 7 points on an 18 play drive in the 4th qtr when we were tired. (We had quite a few two way players) We played games with the inside lineman lining them up as 5 techs or 4i tech depending on their tendencies. We also moved the Guards from 2i to 3 tech's in some situations as well. Scout them up and take away what they do best!
We faced the double wing 3 times this past year. We had moderate to excellent success. We ran two different fronts. We ran a 54 with 2 deep and a 62 with 2 tight cb's and a FS. In our area, most teams are running a 44 look and are having some success with that.
I believe the key is to have a 7 (6i) technique. This eliminates the double team push of the TE and Tac for their Super Power. Then our DE' was an outside shade of the wing - his job was to be extremely physical and wrong arm the FB. We had some terrific collisions from this. With these two techniques you have eliminated Super Power, counter, and criss-cross. For inside trap, in our 5 we had a stellar NT, but our 6 was just as effective and then he was at a DT. Because of the DE's technique we are weak against Buck Sweep or Toss Sweep. The DE was to stop and fight pressure if the WB blocked down on him, generally he couldn't do it. The OLB, or CB then had to fly up on that down block and contian to our LB's.
Our 6 was great against the run and against most of the passes. One team ran a Wedge Play Action pass, dumping the ball to a delayed TE on the backside. We couldn't get a man on that in the 6, so we had to go to the 5 front the rest of that game to great success.
Vs a different team, the 6 was much more efficient because Double Dive was hurting our 5.
In essence, I think you need to take away their best player, or their best play, and make them hurt you with something else.
