Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Being new to the Zone concept, I was wondering if it was a good scheme to use against the "true" 46 Bear defense. By "true", I mean:
NG: 0 technique DT's: 3 techniques DE's 9 techniques ILB's 4 or 5 techniques SS: 7 technique on TE
I would think that zone schemes would be a good counter to the stunting and pressure games of the 46 front. If so, what are your assignments and rules for the inside and outside zone plays?
If you are in a 1 back set and they have 8 in the box throw the ball. If you are in a 2 back set you can run the zone play or stretch play vs this front.
Inside zone:
Fan call by TE, so the TE and PST will fan block the 7 and the 9 and drive them out PSG zone reach the 3 tech. Center and BS guard will zone combo the nose to bs lber BS tackle will cross-over cut the bs 3 tech. Fullback has playside lber.
Stretch:
TE Ted call: down block the 7 and PS Tackle pull and either log or kick out the 9 PS Guard: zone reach the 3 tech Center: Pull and mirror the PS Lber BS Guard: Cross-over cut the nose BS Tackle: Cross-over cut the 3 tech Plus you still have the FB to lead the play on the alley player or force player
Stretch Weak:
PS Tackle Zone Reach 5 PS Guard Zone reach the 3 Center: Pull and mirror the PS Lber BS Guard: Cross over cut the nose BS tackle: Cross over cut the 3 tech TE: Cross over cut the 7 FB lead and pick up spill or alley or force player.

we are a one back team so we see very little bear, we will see the nose with 2 3 tech in a 5-2 front, but very little bear because we can throw the ball very well and we can check to the bubble if they do not cover us up or even give our wr outside leverage.
Speed option weak will kill the bear, vear release the ps tackle to lber and base or zone everyone else and pitch off of the 5 tech.

We always boot the QB out if under center, or it is a read from the gun. We also can motion our H receiver to block him or run our H or Z receiver motion in and on the snap of the ball have them run the sucker look and fake the reverse after the inside zone fake. If they are crashing down the guys in the press box will inform us and we run the reverse or boot or run H motion to block the DE.

I block the inside zone against the bear the same as Coach jd describes only I don't have the BST cut the 3 tech just try to reach him. I will add that I think it is better to go with the outside against the 46 bear front because the 46 is a compressed defense that makes it tough to run inside, but vulnerable outside. Counter weak is a great play as well.
Coach jd,
I sent you an e-mail about the Denver Broncos zone blocking schemes, just wondering if you got it.
dear coach JD, As head freshman coach I am looking to introduce our teams to the stretch and zone schemes. People seem to have a variety of approaches. I would love to see the Bronco schemes - they do it so well.
Would it be posssible for you to e-mail me also? I am at kevinthibault@comcast.net

LOCHNESS - try the Counter to the Split End side from a "3x1" set such as "BUNCH". The Off Guard trapsa the DE on the open side, & Y wrasps thru the hole. Have the Split End "take two" (carry CB to the F/S). There will be no secondary run force, & you might just "pop it"!!!
How do you keep the 3 technique and the SS (lined up in a 7 tech and reading the TE) from pursuit or penetration when you pull the BSG and TE to lead the play?
Sounds like a good plan, but those sort of things have hurt us in the counter game.
