I'M NEW TO THE FORUM, AND HAVE BEEN READING SOME THINGS POSTED ON OUTSIDE VEER. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT TRUE OUTSIDE VEER NEEDED TO BE RUN TO THE TE SIDE, AND THE AIMING POINT OF THE FULLBACK WAS THE OUTSIDE HIP OF THE PLAYSIDE TACKLE IN C GAP. IF FACED WITH A 1, 5, 9 (52 FRONT) YOU GET THE TREY BOCK ON THE 5 TECH AND MAKE THE 9 TECH TAKE THE DIVE. IF THE 9 DOESN'T TAKE DIVE THE FB WILL HAVE A BIG NIGHT. I HAVE SEEN SOME COACHES SAYING THAT THEY RUN IT TO THE OPEN SIDE? DON'T YOU NEED A TE, LIKE YOU DO ON THE LOAD OR LEAD PLAY? CITADEL 95
Hey Coach in all the years we've run outside veer we've only ran it to the open side during one game. We were playing a 5-3 defense, but they were shifting their front to our tightend. So it looked like this to our open side; a ghost 9 tech. an I4 tech. on our tackle, nose was shaded strong, def. tackle in a 7 tech. and another 9 tech. With the weakside I4 we deuced him to the MLB and read the ghost 9 tech. It was pretty effective. And since nothing changed as far as land marks (outside hip of the tackle) it was an easy adjustment.
