Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
What opinions do you guys have on stemming D linemen? I believe this creates some last minute confusion for the OL but don't want my guys caught out of positon or not in an attack positon. All thoughts are welcome.
I agree coach. I would like to impliment DL stemming this year and was wondering how others communicate the stems, when would they stem, and drills that would assist them in stemming while allowiing the DL to play aggressive assignment football.
We did not stem a lot last year but we do stem. When we stemmed in our Multiple 40 I told the DL to get in the same gap just a different shade. For example, if I wanted a DE to end up in a 5 tech, he could eighter be in a 4I to start with or a 7 tech.
We would call our Defense like this: TO 31 Cover 3, Our defense would line up in whatever and when the MLBs made a MOVE call we stemmed. I liked it alot versus veer and wing T teams. If someone quick snapped us we told our DL to stunt to the stop the are suppose to be in.
Coach, We do a lot of steaming. We tell our kids to align where they want as long as they can get to where they are supose to be. We teach steam early. Some of our kids do not steam becuase they simply are not quick enough. PGOLLA
Here is how we teach our kids to stem. We use the standard three point stance. We start teaching early, for comfort, both right and left handed stances. What we tell the kids is that after the defense is called in the huddle, to line up one technique from what they are supposed to be in. For instance if the defense calls for the D lineman to be a 1, he starts out in a 2. If its a 2, he can start out either 1 or 3. We don't use a move call, they do it on their own. They can stem from one technique to the other simply by switching from a right handed to a left handed stance or vice versa. All they do is move the foot that is back, up and over and then put the other hand on the ground. We actually practice this in the off season with our running program. In addition to it confusing O line blocking rules, it looks kinda cool when they do it right.
We call our front with a change call--example 50 change to shade strong. During the QB's cadence, our LB's yell move or shift--we get some OL jumping and consequently some coaches who take issue. I am not a believer in letting the kids line up wherever because of the quick snap--In our system, we are still in a known defensive front and it simply goes to a stunt or slant after the snap if they go on sound or touch therefore everybody knows their responsibility . Stemming is very effective in HS.
