In the standard bob protection out of one back, the center, guard, and tackle work one side while the FB, guard and tackle work another. The back and the uncovered lineman away from the back have double reads on inside backers to outside backers. If either side blitzes both backers, you only have three to block four and you have to decide what to do from there. (throw hot, check protection, audible, etc.) The biggest help is to spread the defense out so that they have to show an outside linebacker blitz for it to be effective.
