Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Coaches, I've been researching the 34. Could anyone explain to me the differences between the 34 and 52? Are the keys any different? I've been an even front guy forever. Are there any vids or playbooks anyone can suggest? Thanks.
Coach, drop me an email - I'll throw you my old 3-4 playbook in pdf. format........we played many veer, option, wing t, and spread offenses and kept them in check pretty easy...
Yeah... a 5-3 stack is a son of a gun to block. It works well especially vs. run. But if someone can effectively spread you out and run the ball--- watch out! It works on the high school level.

Coach, in our 3-4, the strong outside linebacker plays outside shade of the Tight End w/ his inside foot up. He will jam and press the tight end and have outside contain. If pass, he drops straight back into the hook zone (Cover 2), or contain rush (Cover 1). The weak outside linebacker plays what we call a Ghost-9 technique and has outside contain. If pass he always contain rushes (Cover 1 and 2). We rely on our outside linebackers to stop ALL perimeter plays to the outside while maintaining contain responsiblity. I hope this helps.

We play only 1 and 2. Don't play 4-deep unless you play 3-under. You will still suffer in the flat if you do this, b/c the linebackers won't be able to get over in time. You can play 4-deep with 4-under, but you won't have a pass rush. Stick to covers 1, 2, and 3 in the 3-4. Good luck.

Yes we do... it's all disgused from a 2-deep look. Our rules for cover 1 are: CB's have number 1... SS has number 2... FS has centerfield unless they go w/ 4-receivers, then the FS takes the weak side receiver. This turns into straight man coverage (Cover 0). If they go trips we run cover 2 to the trips side and we lock up man-on-man away from the trips side.
We go cover 1 when we run our GO, which is our double inside fire. Vs. 4-wide we go cover 0.
I hope this helps.

Coach do you play any other fronts? In the past we have had success with a bear front, so naturally I'm going to run it. Do you think the bear can be used a base defense? Thanks.
Re run Eagle fronts to the strong and weak side of the field, and we run what we call our G front, which brings the nose over to a strongside-2 technique. The backside 5-tech. moves to a 2-tech. and the OLB plays a 6-tech. Check out of this vs. double tight. Yes, the bear front can be used as a base front, but please buy the 46 defense book by Rex Ryan. IT IS AWESOME!!! I hope this helps.

Coaches, I have three players in mind to play the olb position. One is 6'2" & 215lbs. He has decent speed and agility. The second player is 6'1" 195lbs can run & is agile. He is the strongest of the three. The third player is about 5'10" 200lbs he can run, is fairly agile but toughness is a question. My question to you is who would be more suited to play to play over a TE? Who would play the WLB & who should go to ILB? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Coach, put your two best linebackers inside. They have to make the tackles from A to C gap.
Put the one that you know can handle a tight end's base block at the Strong OLB. Put the better pass rusher on the weak side. They have outside contain and all outside run responsibility.
So to recap.
Best LB- Strong ILB. Has all strongside inside run responsibility. Is required to make EVERY tackle within his responsibility. 2nd best LB- Weak ILB. Has all weakside inside run responsibility. Is required to make EVERY tackle within his responsibility. 3rd best LB- Strong OLB. Has contain responsibility and all strongside outside run responsibility. Is required to make EVERY tackle within his responsibility. 4th best LB- Weak OLB. Has contain responsibility and all weakside outside run responsibility. Is required to make EVERY tackle within his responsibility.
MY ADVICE-- PUT YOUR 5-10, 200 KID AT SOLB. YOU NEED TO BE TOUGH TO PLAY THE INSIDE. IT IS HUGE!!!! I WISH YOU LUCK AND HOPE WE CAN DISCUSS THIS FURTHER.

Coach, I run a 3-4, and I know that teams may struggle running midline vs. 50. If they are automatically going to give it on every play, then I will eagle down. If you're going to play a 3-3 stack, stay in it vs. midline. You have the offense outnumbered- trust me! I hope this helps.
