Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have used sled pulls in my own training to increase GPP and bring up weak points. I use it in the manner suggested by Westside Barbell. Joe Kenn also has a sled video that is supposed to be spectacular. I wouldnt recommend running with the sled. You can do a million things though. Around the waist walking, around the ankle walking, rows, external rotations, flies, curls, bent over walking(this kills the hamstrings and glutes).
When i would do them I would do 6-8 trips of 200 feet with a lighter weight and 6-8 heavier trips for strength work.
Running with the sled can cause a break down in form and decreased speed over time.
10% of athletes BW if you are going to run with it. Make sure you watch form. Motor patterns can be changed using these tools if the coach does not know what to look for. For acceleration work, use the weight that is comfortable for the athlete, and only go 10m at most.
Keep distances moderate for increase in work capacity. Keep distances lower to strength work (walking style only).
What would you do for workouts when pulling tires? Would they be the same? We also have several of the power harnesses from power systems. Would you do the same workout with these as well? Thanks.
Yes. I pulled a tire as my sled. I took a piece of wood and put it in the tire to hold extra weight. i would do it light on off days from lifting for distances of 200 feet for 6 trips. This would be the regular around the waist or harness dragging.
You can also use it on workout days and drag 6-8 trips really heavy(as much as you can move). This will really build the hamstrings if you do it around the waist(or harness) or bent over pulling.
