Just looking for some advice on how to construct and weekly practice routine with my DL. I want to get the most repitions out of my boys with the amount of individual time I have. I would like to find some ideas on warm-up and agility drills.
Another question I have is we 2 platoon our team, but this year we will have to have some OL guys play DL. The time that I will have with them will be limited during a practice week. What are the things that I should focus on when I have them in my individual time?
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Coach Duncan Defensive Line Coach/Richmond Raiders
Coach, You should consider getting ahold of Coach Gollas's D-Line Video Tapes. He goes through a series of drills that explain everything. He calls them EDD or every day drills. These drills are the basic fundimentals that a D-Lineman needs to know. I only had three out of the total 9 guys on my squad as specific D-Lineman. Lucky for me my nose guard was one of the three. The others were O-Lineman and Tightends. But! every time we got together for 10 to 15 minutes a day we beat the heck out of those drills. The first thing I took care of was the snap count. To eliminate any confusion my boys went on body or ball movement. NOT on sound. They were in a three point stance as the O_Line was walking up to the LOS so that the O could not go on first sound without us being prepared. My boys hardly ever jumped off sides. The drills we did every day were as follows.# Get offs in Three point stance in the shuttes. ( Helps Keep the pad level low.) #2. In a three point stance on movement, The boys explode out with arms out in front in a three point punch position landing on there stomachs. (This teachs explosion off the ball, Whoever gets out the furthest wins.) #3. Three point punch in proper hit technique. As long as they have these three down you can build on the rest but explosion off the line, Three point punch and drive are key to all d-Lineman. This is just my opinion but you should get Coach Gollas tapes they will help alot. Thanks
