Game planning for the next weeks opponent usually starts Friday night after our game in my current program. Whichever coach brings the camera in to the office starts the upload. As a staff we will then watch the film once through with out pausing. I have found this to be very useful. I right down play numbers of really good or really bad things that I notice so that I can make sure to note them to the kids. After the film has played once we are off until the next morning.
Saturday morning we meet as a staff from 8:30-10:00. This is the time that we allow our athletes to come in for ice or to get checked out by the trainer if necessary. We will upload our opponent film and break apart into our separate offices. Offensive coaches in one room and defensive coaches in another. The goal is that we will have our game tape from the night before completely broken down by the time we leave at 10:00. We do not like to dwell on past performances but they can help us better ourselves as coaches and our athletes if done correctly. After we leave at 10:00 we will not meet again until Sunday afternoon.
Sunday afternoon usually between 1:00 and 3:00 we will meet back at the school. I am expected to have opponent game film broken down from a defensive perspective and the offensive coordinator is expected to have opponent film broken down from an offensive perspective. We again separate into our respective offices and begin to develop our game plan and scouting reports for our next opponent. From 5:00-6:30 our athletes will come in for a quick film session and to go over scouting reports.
Monday after school the offensive and defensive coordinators are each allowed 15 minutes of time to go over pieces of film that they feel are most noteworthy. The majority of our Monday evening practice is a teaching practice where as coaches we fitting our game plan to our athletes.
