Can anyone tell me about the match-up zone concept you can play from a 4-3? I know there needs to be a cover 2 shell and the DBs basically read the first few steps of the recievers and react from there. Obviously there is alot more to it than that.

You can play a match-up out of an 8-man front. This is what it would be to a pro formation. Strong C locks onto #1; do not expect any help. Strong OLB reads #2. #2 to flat, jump him; #2 vertical or inside, bang him and drop curl to flat. FS reads #2. #2 vertical, lock on. #2 to flat play overtop of #1 (back up strong C). FS has wheel route of #2. #2 inside under LB's drop, look for crosser. #2 inside behnd LB's drop, lock on man. Backside C play man on #1. Backside LB/OLB, the one who doesn't stunt has back out.
We play a ton of this, and it's been good to us because it lets us keep our FS closer to the middle of the field and allows him to get involved in the run game. We will also play this out 0f a 4-3 front vs 1-back formations.
We don't like to play this scheme vs a wide twins. Vs wide twins we might play a cover2-type match-up or play man on the twins.
