Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We have gotten away from doing maximum lifts in our program for various reasons (with the exception of cleans). I really like the bench press for reps like they do for the NFL rookies at the scouting combines.
My question is should I use 225 lbs. to test or 185 lbs. ? I think 225 might be a little too much.
and what should be expected for the amount of reps for the various position groups?
It will probably depend on the grade level or year in college. I know at the High School combines they have the kids rep 185lbs. I was thinking of having my Freshman perform 115lbs, Sophomores 135lbs, Junior 155 pounds and Seniors 185 pounds. Good luck coach,
If you are teaching good technique, then doing singles should not be a problem. I have seen form break down much more with higher reps because of fatigue.
i would look at how much they are lifting during the program, such as what is the heaviest weight that they can lift safely. then put them in groups based on that: 225, 200, 185, 165, 135, 115 are some examples. if you do 225 x 10 reps that is 295 lbs. max. so if a kids is lifting 300 lbs. during the heaviest part of your lifting cycle then he goes to the 225 group or 245. it is your choice. on a side note, we don't do the above mentioned. we mutliple rep max. with 80 % of their last max on the bar for bench and squat. if thier techn. goes the max stops. is our first rule. if you do less than 5 reps then you used a too heavy weight to max and if you do more than 14 reps then you picked a too light of weight to max. it has worked for us. on the power clean / hang clean we one rep max. after talking with a college strength coach we have kinda copied his philosophy. all a max is for is to increase the amount of weight that the kid is doing in the next cycle. as long as his amount of weight he is lifting goes up ( safely ) then he is getting stronger. a max is used two ways: 1. a kid likes to brag about it and makes him feel better 2. used to increase the amount that he is lifting making him stronger. just my two cents.
Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my GUNS!!!
If you want high reps on a certain poundage, the man with the most absolute strength (one rep max) is still going to out perform the others nearly every time.
