Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
What rules do you use for your line splits when running option (mostly midline and inside veer)? right now we are planning to start at three feet but tell our covered lineman that they are allowed to stretch as far as their D-lineman will follow them. For uncovered lineman we are telling them to narrow their split to make the double team easier. Any problems with widening line splits and allowing linebacker run throughs? Any feedback appreciated.
We audible alot too and also keep our splits contant at 2 feet. In practice do you give your QB the green light to audible whenever he wants to based on the defense? Or do you have a period of team time devoted to that?
Wise men talk because they have something to say. Fools talk because they have to say something.---Plato
Coach, we run the opiton, and our splits are 2. 3. 3. This widens out the defenders to allow for more release room for the OL, and it makes the holes naturally wider.
I know Coach Campbell will tell you that he has his QB's audible quite often. I can tell you that our QB will typically have a group of checks that he can make. He always has the green light if there is something we can "steal"....i.e., if we have an option play call, but he sees soft coverage on a receiver, he has the go-ahead to check to a hitch route, as an example. If I have an experienced and smart QB, I give him a great deal of flexibility in terms of audibles. In practice, I will script audibles into a team period, but I will also have a short "check period" designed to cover our adjustments. pdow
