Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
For those that run zone, especially those that "hang their hats" on it, how do you guys go about putting series together? What plays are you using in these series? In this case, I'm assuming the ideal situation where you are dictating to the defense.
We like to run a naked pass off the inside zone action. This is usually something the QB will gauge for us; if the backside contain is being lazy... we run it (little dump to the FB in the flat, or TE sneaking across; SE usually clearing out),
We'll also run a 'Sally Ran" play. This is essentially a naked QB bootleg, no pass involved. It has been most successful when the QB simply makes the decision and pulls the ball out of the TB's stomach, and keeps it round the corner. We ran this play in university, with great success. You'll need a good decision maker at QB, but man can it go.
I'm a big fan of a counter-tre off the zone look, but mixing it up and bringing the backside tackle or FB as the 2nd puller.
After a steady diet of inside zone... we also like an inside FB trap.
Essentially what we like to do is punctuate a steady diet of inside zone & outside/toss, with a few misdirection plays, and then some play-action really out of the blue.
A great one has been a slotback/wingback sweep off a toss action (both guards pull)... but we found we needed a heck of an athlete to really make the play go.
You just described our offense. One thing we do with our Inside Zone is send our flanker in deep motion. We then fake reverse to flanker after we hand off to the tail back to keep the backside busy. We will run the flanker reverse as part of our offense and do quite well with it.
If you have any other sets from your inside zone please email me.
