I've never been to a clinic that's been exclusively for youth coaches, with the exception of the NFF/NFL's Coaching Academy program (which is very good by the way). I've tossed the idea around previously with Coach Campbell and others about possibly trying to put together a clinic strictly for youth level coaches and wanted some input from everyone here on the board as to what topics you would want covered and any other ideas you might have. Thanks.

Coach, I think this a great idea! Youth coaches need the help with ALL areas....Lots of youth coaches have little to no expeirence. with some guidence the youth game would be better taught. Personally I'd be looking forward to talks on basic football fundamentals. Blocking ( how to get youth players to block consistantly) Tackling ( How to get youth players to tackle better) Practice schedules, fitness, speed (how to increase the speed of your team)......etc...you say where and when I'll be there.
Thanks for the enthusiastic response Coach Biggy! I've always felt like "hands on" and "interactive" methods work best when teaching skills to coaches as well as to kids. I think the ideal clinic combines both classroom and on-field instruction and would definitely be the type of clinic we would try to put together.

Coach Campbell and I are in the very early stages of attempting to put a Youth Coaching Clinic together here in South Texas in late March. What I'm asking for is what topics and what format would you want to see at a clinic devoted strictly to coaching youth football thru middle school/junior high level? Even if you're too far away to make the trip, I'd really appreciate hearing everyone's ideas on what would benefit you most as a youth coach and what type of speakers you'd like to hear from!
Thanks and I hope all of you and your families have a safe and happy holiday!
Merry Christmas,

Dave, Coach Campbell asked me to speak. I told him I would love to if I could possibly work it in. The date was in question. If it is to be in March, you can count on me if you can get me a firm date so I can put it on my schedule. Will it be one day? Please hit me at coacheaston @hotmail.com so we can discuss details. If it it comes about in that month, I would enjoy nothing more than being with you!

Thanks for your suggestions - that's exactly the kind of input I'm after! Any idea as to how much interest their might be among LSYFA coaches? The Texans have a youth clinic in March as well so I'll make sure our date does not conflict with it. Thanks again for the response. I'm looking forward to hearing from many more of you here on the board.

Frank Glazier clinics provides free clinic scholarships to youth coaches. I attended one of the clinics last year and sat in on some great stuff. The majority was somewhat advanced and most of the material not applicable to the youth level. I was able glean a lot of tidbits that I used this season that helped me out immensely. This year Glazier offers the same free scholarship for youth coaches. This year Glazier has added blocks of instruction tailored to the youth coach such as ........
Developing Your Coaching Style: Motivation, Discipline & Structure - B Organize a Practice Week While Making Conditioning Fun - B How to Develop an Offensive Practice & Game Day Schedule: Q&A Session - B How to Teach Offensive Skills (QB, RB & WR), Including Drills - B Teaching Offensive Linemen & Practice Drills - B How to Set Up a Defensive Practice & Game Day Schedule - B How to Teach DBs & LBs and Drills - B How to Teach DL Techniques & Drills - B How to Develop a Defensive Strategy to Fit Your Team: Introduction to 4-4, 6-2 & 50 Pkgs - B
Go to the link and see if there is a clinic in your area. You can select a clinic and look at the tentative speakers scheduled for each. Go to the top of the page and you can register for your free scholarship. Remember, it's free.
I'm meeting with Coach Campbell this afternoon about the clinic and all the other things we're working on. We're still looking at a date sometime in March for the clinic. Next year I hope to be able to hold it in very late January if we're able to get it started this year. I hope to have a firm date after we get together today. I hope everything is going your way coach so far in 2005!
