Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Could the following be legit option on me alternatives. (1) Weakside lead option (2) The DIVE play off our dive option which looks like inside veer but we do not read it, (3) Load option strong. We run outside veer and read it but do not run a true inside veer. We do not run midline because we only have time to get good at so many things we have chosen to leave midline out so we can run some other power type plays.

The problem I have with the lead option is that it does not hold the LBs, and they can simply sprint to the ball. We run a version of the midline when we see there is no weakside invert. Its an automatic pull by the QB, and he options the 5 technique on the weakside. Now the LBs constrict on the FB, but you still get the ball pitched and in the alley (which is why you're running there.) It basically is like Speed Option with a dive fake. There are some blocking considerations but for the most part, we block this just like our Lead or Speed option, outside zone. We have run Veer weak as part of our option on me package, but it almost always ended up being a give read, and the FB got the ball. For us, I wanted the ball in our fastest back's hands and in the alley, so we came up with this.

I run a play I call - 27 COWBOY LEAD LOAD- WE RUN IT OUT OF THE "I" .
We come out strong rip - put the flanker in motion and pull him one step past the backside 5 tech. He then pins the will backer. In our terminology COWBOY signifys pre-determined pitch. QB attacks downhill toward the backside 5, but we then load on him with our quick tackle and the FB running a regular lead option path. The split stalks the CB and the RB takes the pre-determined pitch and runs the lane created on the open side. He ends up one on with the FS for the most part. The center has the cutoff on the SAM and the quick guard has the cutoff on the Mike. We hold the backers by blocking them!!! If you have time, give it a try, I think you will like it. By the way, Coach Campbell is right as always, about the midline, it is the easiest by far to install because of the closeness of the read. I haven't heard from you lately, I know your busy, I'm in Canada trying to get some of my guys looked at by the CFL teams, but try to get to a computer as often as I can. If you can squeeze out a minute or so, email me and let me know how things are going for you.

I think one of the better option combinations is the midline and the freeze option which is complemented by the freeze trap. The ILB'ers suck up on the midline fake which allows a nice perimeter play to occur with a pitch either off the 5 tech or outside LB'er. Deleone from Syracuse has good video resources regarding this play. pdow
