Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
From an 8 man look it is having your CBs play deep halves, the linebackers play the 4 underneath zones and the FS (Robber) man covers #2 (TE) if he goes vertical. We are looking at this coverage at the moment as it gives you deep defenders with the dropping CBs but prevents the TE running seam routes over the middle as the FS picks him up. Also the TE read for the FS is an easy one and helps him get into run support quickly and putting 9 in the box.
#2 is bracketed by Str OLB and Str ILB. On their pass drop both will open to the outside and look for a receiver to wall off. If #2 goes out then he is heading towards the Str OLB. We teach the OLB to first flick his head to #1 when he reads pass to see if the wr turns his shirt inwards to run a slant - if so then the OLB accelerates to that. If he doesnt see the shirt then he squares and drops looking for the TE or RB coming to the flats. Str ILB will also pass drop outwards and look to wall off any inside route by #2.
You can also play robber form an 8-man front this way: Corners lock on to #1 and play man. FS reads #2. #2 vertical or deep inside (behind LB drop), lock on man. #2 to flat, get inside and on top of #1, but must be able to play #2 if he does a wheel. If #2 goes shallow inside (under LB drop), look for crosser from other side.
On the backside, the C plays #1 man, and the OLB and LB play combo on the back to that side (you can stunt one and the other has the back). This is great vs -back formations because the FS can stay in the box and really gert involved with the run.
Coach what is the recommended alignment of the FS in Robber. I run a 44 defense and I am thinking of putting this coverage in for our run package. I have read that the FS reads the TE block and reacts to this.
I would like to only know whether I now understood this right
the alignments for the FS(Robber) is over the #2(TE), if the TE blocks, than has the robber run support. If the TE goes in, than has the ILBs the TE. If he goes out, has the OLB the TE and if TE goes verticel, than has the robber the TE m/m. If TE goes in or out, than the robber can play the 1/3 Deep(inside) or play free.
Is this True?
and I have another question?
what is in 43 look?
Play it with the Strong Safety and have 8 man in the box?
HawkDC: We play the FS no deeper than 9yds and no wider than hte OG. This allows him to help out vs the run and still be able to play #2. If #2 is a wide twins, we'll probaly chick into a cover2 read.

Align FS / Robber in C gap. That is your 9th man. He is hard run fill. Route read #2, either split or TE. If #2 goes vert lock on man. In under 8 ILB lites him up. Over 8 yd yell Dig/Crosser. Melt into backside looking to rob Post / SLant. If #2 goes out Rob #1. Weakness= double outs. This can be run by both safeties in 3-4 set giving 1/4's look. Also on option responsibilties Robber can either be straight up pitch or read QB to Pitch depending on you End, OLB resp.
