Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
What option plays do you find successful v. this defense? In the past I have pounded it with base blocking dives and leads with a play action pass or a three step game. This year we will go with an option oriented offense out of the I. any help would be great.
Counter Options, Dives, Counter Dives to the TB. These have been good for us. What also may work in part with the Option is a quick Option reverse w/ the WR to keep the Backside from playing aggressive on the backside of the option. Anything Vertical or Perimeter plays work well. -good luck
coach, how would you block the counter option all I know are inside +outside veer load and midline. would adding a counter option be too much to learn as well as the other options?
Inside veer to the weak side is a great play against a 5-3. Ace combo the C and PSG with the nose and MLB. PST blocks down on the DT. The Dive read is the DE. You can read the OLB for pitch and have the X crack the FS. Or you can crack the OLB and read the FS or CB for pitch. Then once the FS and CB start to support hard, throw play action off the inside veer action to the X on a quick post corner, the crack blocking schemes should set up the route.
Pay attention for the "echo" stunt. DE penetrates upfield for QB while the OLB crashes the dive. This is a keep read and you now pitch off the DE.
Outside Veer. Trey Combo the Tackle to the OLB. Load option is another good play to run, b/c it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the Free Safety. Also, be prepared to throw the ball and throw to the flat. There is no way the OLB can make all those plays covering. I wish you luck against what I refer to as the "mother-in-law" defense.

If faced with a 5-3 or a 3-5 stack its best not to give the defense a tight end. Go ahead and flex the tight end and this will clear the perimeter play up. Coach CAmpbell
