well we are a noback team so we like two wr screens. screen one is the wr hitch screen. it keeps the ball on the outside and is really good vs soft zone or loose man coverages.
the screen we like the best is a middle screen to a wr. we like to run it to the twins side. the slot blocks the man over the wr. the wr comes parrallel to the l.o.s and catches the ball where the offensive tackle is. why we like is it because vs our noback the defense likes to drop 7 and 8 into coverage and attack we 3 or 4. the middle screen is a dropback screen so the defense reads dropback pass then we slip the rec behind the l.o.s. the lineman get to release down field and it is like a kickoff return. our goal is to throw 60 passes agame and we want to throw 6 to 7 per quarter. the screen pass is our run game. say we throw 28 screens pergame we want to complete atleast 22. the screen game builds a qb confidence.
just my 2 cents, we ran a tunnel screen last year out of a trip. I. we ran it with a split or a te. it was easier wiht a se. we ran it with a 3 step drop. all 3 backs would sprint at the tackles butt., picking off anyone in their way. the x took one step forward and then down the line. WE also had the qb flash the ball to a back We put this play in for our last game And wish we had put it in earlier. The most we gained on it was about 10-12 yds. we ran it 4 times that game. and completed 3. we probably gained 25 on it in those 3 times.
We are a one back no back team. We love what we call the middle screen. It is the ssame blocking for the O-Line and depending on the tag it can be run to the X,Z,Y, or TB. Big play for us this year. we also have the fake middle screen with a post corner combo.
I like to throw the FB screen off the option look.
Fake the FB, he runs into the playside guard and works back to where the backside TE lined up. QB rides the FB, takes a step down the line then off the line looking downfield then drifts back and finds the FB.
Backside tackle blocks man on for a 2 count and kicks out SS. Guard blocks for a two count and seals LB inside. Center blocks for a two count and goes down the LOS and peels back for most dangerous chaser.
FB receives the ball and gets upfield between the SS and LB.
We like this when we get alot of pressure from the backside when we run option.
