Is wanting to coach in the NFL an unrealistic goal?

Any goal that is honest, worthwhile, and forthright can never be considered unrealistic. What you aspire to is certainly a lofty goal, as NFL Coaches work at the top rung of our profession. You must meet a very stringent criteria to even be considered by that organization. It entails a successful college coaching career most of the time. It calls for "time in grade" so to speak as a very successful assistant coach at the lower levels, as well as, having been a Head Coach or a coordinator at a major college, for the most part. In the old days, that was not so, but today it is. It is a fraternity that is not easily broken into. I know a High School Head Coach, that had just finished a graduate assistant year at his University and happened into a scouting job with the Atlanta Falcons. He also worked with the Punters for that club. But, he was a "Volunteer" coach and took the position just for experience. Unless your single or rich, most coaches I've known were not able to do that at any level. But, each case scenario is an individual thing and without giving it a try, how will you ever know???
