This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
How do you guys play man vs bunch with 3 rec. Do you stay locked on the same man, switch or play man areas, where one covers the out one covers the in and one covers the seam? thanks
Most teams zone bunch formations but we man it without switchups. Press the point man & be really aggressive to disrupt his stem (helps destroy pick routes), play the defender over #1 receiver head up at 1 1/2 yards off LOS taking aggresive cutoff on inside breaks, defender over #3 plays 3 yards off shading inside shoulder. The different levels helps to avoid rub offs, picks & confusion. Must be repped alot. Being aggressive with the receiver is the key!
We zone or play man areas, depending on the front and coverage shell. We often use Rex Ryan's "Loaded" zone concept against most types of trips formations as a coverage audible (see his book on the 46). If we are in a man concept becuase we're blitzing, we will run "Banjo" or "Triangle" coverage against bunch. Well coached receivers should modify their routes as necessary to effect the rubs. We would put our best press escape guy at #2 (sometimes a TE if the DB at that spot is small) because we run a lot of routes with #1 to the flat and making a mess for the inside aligned DB to run through is key.
Also, we run bunch to isolate the backside SE one on one against the corner. He's ususally our playmaker and it gives him space to operate on a choice read of the corner's pre-snap alignment. Thus, we run the loaded zone because it allows us to double cover the backside guy with the weak corner and FS.
