Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I will be coaching 10, 11 & 12 year olds this year. We're putting in the Double Wing offense and G.A. Moore's 10-1. Our season starts on August 2nd and we're allowed to practice 2 hours per day, 5 days per week, with a 6th day if desired. After 20 hours, we're allowed to get into pads and hit.
Given these conditions, what are your suggestions on how to set up a practice schedule? I know we have to get the kids into "football condition" as well as teach the skills, and position assignments that are required, but, I'd like to get as much input as I can on what the sequence of events should be and what I can hope to accomplish after 10 hours, 20 hours, etc.
I started to write this up but it will be majorly long. I'd be happy to offer some ideas if you'd like to have a phone conversation. You can reach me on my cell @ 804.512.8457.

We break our practices down into 24 periods, each 5 minutes long. Our warm-up and stretch time (we do not stretch as a group) does not count toward this. Once the clock hits 4 o'clock we start out timer. A trainer blows the whistle every 5 minutes and announces the period we are in.
Regardless of what drill or exercise we do, we always incorporate as much as possible to augment it. If we're on the blocking sled, we're going to go over steps and stance in addition to pushing it around. If we are practicing handoffs, we are going to make the backs run a play. It helps overlap teaching plays with skills.
By making a schedule and adhereing to it, you will eliminate almost all of the dead time in practice. Keep it moving, but make sure whatever is taught is done right. Better to get 1 thing right than 5 things half right because you're cramming. A fast-moving 2 hour practice can do a lot of conditioning work for you.
