VS. a down block DL have 2 good options: Spin out against the pressure and cross-face back into the play. Coaches-- I am looking to hear how you guys are teaching these two skills and when to use them, especially the cross-face. Thanks...
we use it vs. down blocks by an adjacent OL. we drill it by pairing the DL off and aligning them along the yardline a few feet apart. we put the dl in his stance and the ol in a two point stance just to the side of him like he was the next ol over from the dl alignment. we stand behind the dl so he can't see what we are telling the ol to do. we have him do two things with his down block: attack the face of the dl or attack his butt. we cross his face if he is on ours and run off his butt if he is on our butt. once we have this down then we progress to adding another ol in front of him and now we work on combination of blocks at him so to give him a game type look.

Spinning is the sissy way to do it, and your soft players make it a habit in other situations if you teach the spin. Tell them to cross-face back into the play. Good luck.
