Well here it goes last season I was coaching in a rich area of town in Milwaukee 8th grade boys, I had found out one of my player had been caught stealing school property upon finding out this I suspended him from all team function including practices, games and film sessions. I caught a lot of flack over this from his parents as well as from the AD. I was asked on numerous occasions from his parents and the AD (which was very good friends with the boys parents) to reinstate him this went on for days and I did not second guess or budge on my decision.
Even though my HC was asking be to let the boy play I was DC at the time after countless discussions with my HC I was told he was going to allow him to play the remainder to the season (2 games) I then told him he could put him back on the team if he wanted but he was not going to play on my defense not after what had happened I told him I respected the game, the program and everyone who played for me would do the same. Well needless to say the boy was reinstated because of the parents is my only guess the father was the Pres. at a bank there in Milwaukee anyway at the end of the season I was fired they said they just wanted to go in a different direction. My defense was ranked first in our division, which led me to believe I was fired for other reasons. Well since then I was so embarrassed about being fired from doing something I was so passionate about I told everyone I left to persue better opportunities even though I hated lying about it I was still embarrassed about being fired. Well with that said last year was my first year in coaching I am 27 years old and me and my family have relocated to an area in mid wisconsin I took a JV job at a small school in a farming community where football is not exactly the highlight of the area's year.
I had planned to turn it that around and get people excited about football in hopes much like it was where I played in south texas. But I guess now I am having worries with this being my first HC job, Can anyone give me any advice on how to approach my first year in full control, how was it for you? that sort of thing.
I know this has been long winded and I do apologize for that but I felt you guys would have to know the full story in order to understand what I am feeling. thanks for all your help.
