Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I am the D-line coach at the high school level and I received my game night duties today. I am in the pressbox. My HC told me he wants me to watch the opponent's O-line during the game to see how they are attempting to block us on plays, so that during halftime we can get together and make any necessary adjustments.
This will be my first time in "the box", so I am unsure of the best ways to keep track of this information would be, what are the important things I need to be looking for, etc. I will be conferring with my HC a lot about this, but I wanted to know what others may do and how they do it. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Our first game is three weeks from Friday, but we are having two full scrimmages between now and then, so I get two trial runs at it before the real deal begins.
Looking forward to all you coaches responses on this topic.
Why don't you ASK THE HEAD COACH? I know exactly what I want from my assistants in the booth. I want them to be able to tell me what the defense is doing and who the weak links are (oversimplified). From a defensive standpoint, I want them to tell me how they are hurting us. That's all. Good luck w/ your season.

Coach, As a Head Coach, I want three things from the booth on offense : 1.- down and distance? 2. who didn't make their block? 3. are they doing anything defensively that we haven't prepared for?
On defense: Who is getting whipped on the LOS? Who is getting beat in man coverage in the secondary? who is not giving 100% on every play? Are you seeing any blocking schemes we haven't prepared for?
I want the booth personnel to chart every play on whichever side of the ball they are working with( info as to starting position, what D or O we were in, to which side was play run, final disposition of play. If not successful, why? I always like the offensive guys to note which pass plays worked against what secondary coverages, and what did not. Want the D guys to note what blitzes against what formations were the most successful, and number of passes verses number of running plays they charted in first half. Special notes being made of any tendencies as they occur on both sides of the ball. At half time, we compare charts and make our adjustments. I always have the backup QB's charting plays on the sidelines as well. If you are on the phones, talk in a controlled, quiet demeanor. The sign of a well prepared staff is quiet effiency on the phones and the sidelines, not something that sounds like a chinese fire drill.
Coach Easton
At half time, we compare our collective charts and make the necessary adjustments
Defensively- who is getting whipped on the line, are the LB's doing their job,
