Option is certainly a very good way to compete. The option allows you to leave one man unblocked and to outnumber the defenders on the second level.

You can also run a lot of angle and trap type schemes. Inside trap, counter trap, and G trap are all good schemes because it allows for combo blocks and excellent angles / leverage on larger defenders. Just be certain your linemen have great fundamentals and you can still be successful. Also, coach aggressiveness and confidence. If the kids are out-sized...that is one thing. If they are not aggressive or confident, then you have much bigger problems.

My team is as outnumbered and outmanned as anyone.
We have 23 players.
Nine of these players are offensive linemen.
Seven of these linemen are freshmen and sophomores.

We run the option so we don't have to block defensive tackles (Midline), defensive ends (Inside/Outside Veer) and because of the misdirection involved. I hope I answered your question.
