Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are a spread option team and we faced the following look last night. We won 12-6 but we had to grind it out. We normally run for 300 yards a game and we were held to 165 yards rushing. They run a variation of the 3-3-5 defense.
The NG is in a 0 Tech with a stacked LB over top. He plays FB as well.
Both Ends are in 4i techniques and they crash through the B gap for the FB dive.
The Strong and weakside LB's align over the slots at 3-4 yards. They play QB on Veer and Midline options.
The strong and weak spurs align two yards outside of the the slots and they play dump to pitch.
The Corners align inside of the split ends at 4 yards and have them man to man.
The FS is aligned at 10 over the ball and he fills the alley on option runs for the dump pass to the Qb to the Pitch.
We were able to run some midline but it wasn't as easy as it looked on paper. Obviously by alignment, you have a hard time getting the ball outside.
We did align in heavy (tackle over) and run Belly G at them and midline but that was about all that was consistent in the running game. Interesting front....I had never seen anything like this and I am interested in hearing your thoughts.
If they have the right personnel in the right spots that can play that scheme, sounds pretty tough to run against to me. I'll put it on paper and look at it, if I come up with anything worthwhile I'll post on it for you.

We were able to block the nose 1 on 1 who was their weak link. A stud nose would have made for a miserable night. We blocked midline like this: leave the 4i alone. PSG to middle backer. PST blocked out on LB over the slot. Playside A back Blocked out on OLB aligned 2 yards outside of him. BSG blocked out on 4i. BST blocked out on LB over the slot. Backside A back Blocked out on OLB aligned 2 yards outside of him. This was ok at first but we ended up having a size mismatch with their LBer's and slots. We tried play action with the slots off the midline but the LB'ers over them were on top of it. They always got to the QB late on the midline but it was only for a couple of yards. They were good athletes that could run and we stayed in heavy (tackle over with TE aligning in BST position) most of the night to get a crease with the belly G.
oh I forgot, the backside tackle dips, rips and runs to the second level. he dips and uses a rip tech. if the 4 i crashes he stays on him, if the 4i goes away he runs to try and catch the backside backer if no backer then he contriues down field on a path to intersect him and the safety.
