Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
From one defensive coach to another, I would like to know what information you place on your game sheets. We use the digital scout program and it spits out a ton of information on our opponents, but how much should I worry about writing up on a game sheet to have with me on the sidelines?
I am not the DC, only the D-line coach, but I want to be involved as much as possible. Right now I am trying to get everything Digital Scout gives us onto both sides of a manila folder and have it lamenated, but it takes me forever to get all that information down. I guess what I am asking is what is the important stuff I need to have on me in case the DC looks to me for my input?
My responsibilities have grown from each week and I am excited about that because I desire to be a DC, then HC one day so this season has been a great learning experience for me. I am just trying to tweak it here and there, so I can spend more time studying film, etc. and less time filling out a game sheet. Would love some responses tonight, if possible.
I am the defensive guy in the box. I take a form with me that lists the various down-distance situations. I 'm concerned with a few things: #1 Is it a run or pass down? If it's a pass down, what type of pass action is employed? If it's a run down, where do they run (A/B gaps, Off-tackle, Wide, or option) and to which side (TE, SE or to a specific back) #2 Is there a play that the offense likes to run in a given situation (screen, rocket screen, option, etc) At the start of the game, I will tell the DC what we expect, based on scouting. As the game goes on, I will chart what the offense does and relay this to the DC. Sometimes I will make suggestions as to what to call, based on what I've charted.
On a 5x8card I will have all the front/stunts/coverages we plan on using for that game (including any checks). On the back of this card I will have a list of "what-if's". These are calls to use if the offense does something we'haven't seen on film, or calls to make if we are having trouble stopping certain things.
You don't want to have too much info, or you'll suffer paralysis from analysis. I would suggest that you decide what you feel you need to know and go from there.
