Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We run the I Offense and run the Veer, Midline and Load Option. A couple of questions...We are running the Load Option to the TE Side and we are having trouble blocking the Mike LB vs a 4-4 Defense. Our TE & ST are combo blocking (Trey) the END and our SG is blocking the 3 Technique....but we can't seem to stop MIKE from flowing down the line and chasing down the QB. We have our FB "loading" on the FS. Any suggestions on a blocking scheme?
Coach, I may be wrong here, but isn't the end the read man? If I understand your question correctly, I would have the TE combo/chip down to Mike, pitch off the end, and Load the OLB (alley player?)
Coach P - I believe coach nk... is using coach Campbell's load option rules in which it is best run to a 3 tech. with a 7 tech. or 5 tech. with a 9 tech. As he's already mentioned vs. a 3 tech. reach him with the ps guard, the tackle and tightend will "trey" the 7 tech. to the MLB. Pitch key becomes the first unblocked defender, usually the OLB in a 4-4, FB blocks the 2nd unblocked defender, usually the FS. Coach nk... we get that problem also with those fast flying lb's. We've had some big gainers off our counter trap to take advantage of their pursuit. The other thing we emphasized this year are - 1st the QB flash fakes the ball on his push away steps. 2nd, the fullbacks first two steps are the same as outside veer including making a pocket. Since it's important in the zone blocking scemes to not chase the 2nd level defenders we're trying to induce them to come to us. It's a great play and it's been very good for us. Good luck.
Thanks for the help. You are correct in that we are using Coach Campbell's Load Option Rules by loading the FS. How are you running the counter trap? I may need to add that to the playbook. I also read some more of Coach Campbell's information about the Trey Block....and I have to get the ST & TE to work fast to allow the TE to seal Mike. We are one of the smaller teams and it seems everyone has a very large and fast END and it has been requiring a double team to allow the QB to get around to the outside.
Your help on the counter trap would be appreciated.
The Trey block for the Load Option is a fast rotating combination between the tackle and tight end which tracks the playside linebacker. Depending upon how the playside linebacker reacts to the load movement he could trigger underneath which the tackle would pick him up or if the linebacker scrapes over the top then the tight end will block him. By blocking try on a 7 tech and or a 5 tech depending upon what the defense gives you then this play never stretches and gives the play alot of grass to run on. Coach Campbell
Coach Nick, We're mainly an I pro, or I twins team. We run our counter trap back to the tightend. In an I pro right vs. a 4-4 QB fakes weakside veer to the FB who is filling for the pulling guard. It's just a quick flash fake there's no ride. The FB is responsible for making a pocket and then blocking the 3 tech. TB crosses with his right foot, steps with his left foot and plants and drives back to the playside 6 hole. The backside guard pulls and kicks out the 7 tech. The tightend turns out the 9 tech. or OLb. Ps tackle and guard duece the 3 tech. the the MLB. Good luck.
