Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
For some reason, we seem to be having trouble with the pitch on both load to the open side, and counter option. How deep is the alignment of the pitch back? Does the QB need to slow? We are putting the ball on the ground far too many time!
If your Qb is right handed, it is the most difficult to pitch with his left hand, and vice versa for a lefty. He needs to work rep after rep with his RB! I have always coached a 1 and 5 pitch relationship no matter what side is play side. Thats one yd deep and a minimum of 5 yds. wide. Is he using the thumb down method, or the basketball pitch? We always teach QB's to think quick pitch when he is going backside because of the proximity of the 5 tech. IMO, he does not need to slow down just perfect his technique by having him drop his hips, get a good power base, step toward his pitch back and make the pitch(thumb down technique) if he is using the basketball pitch have him step directly to his man and push it to him in the numbers, not down around his knees. I would wager to say that with reps he will improve his overall technique quickly and things will get better quickly.

Thanks coach. The QB is right handed, and uses the "thumb down" when pitching to the right. However, he tends to "basketball pitch" the left side. Our problems have been either pitching behind, or too hard. I am guessing that the "too hard" issue is due to pitch relationship mor than anything.
Your observation of your QB's "to Hard" a pitch is probably correct, just have the RB adjust his width and depth of his pitch relationship. As for the "pitching behind" the RB, I have found that most often that is caused by your QB not stepping directly to, and disecting his target, with his step foot. He probably is stopping and as the back continues to run he will always be behind in his pitch. Your hips have to follow your shoulders and just as in passing, a bad pitch is the direct result of poor foot placement. Just have him emphasize STEPPING to his target, and SPLITTING his target in half with his stepping foot, just as he does in his passing mechanics.
Coach Easton PS: let me know how he comes along, if you have time.
