Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Next week we play a team that runs a 5-2 with the following techniques: split side: 3,5 tight side:1,4i,9. They usually walk up the invert to the tight side. Any suggestions on the best option plays.
If they walk up the SS, OSV to strong side. If their tackle stays in a 4I, then that becomes an automatic pull anyway, so why not just get it on the perimeter to begin with? ISV to open side is always a great play, as is counter option, lead option, load option. I run a play against a 5-2 that I call 27 Cowboy Lead. Same action as lead option by QB and FB, (I run it out of the Pro with "I" backs) but "Cowboy" denotes predetermined pitch rather than read the 5 tech. I motion the flanker and pull him just outside of the 5 tech and he walls the Will Line Backer. The FB slams the 5, QB makes the pitch to TB who runs lane created by our SE turning out the weakside CB and the walled WLB. He should find himself one on one with their FS for a nice gain. This "crazy option" to the backside should work well also, as coach Campbell and Coach Mac explained it to me, in that it opens up possibilities depending upon the action of the backside 5.

Load to both sides. I like the old-fashioned load to the open-ended side. Deuce the 3- tech, have the FB load the five, and it's 2-on-0 on the corner. Have fun! Also, I agree with Coach Easton. Outside Veer is so open.

Coach Cella, Is the lead back logging or kicking out the end? We have had some success pitching off the end and loading the alley player. It ends up being a scraping LB or a late arriving FS. What are your thoughts on this, and should we be running the way you described?
On old-fashioned load, you log the end. If he flies up, tell your running back to run through the end's numbers. If you run this weakside, you will have a 2 on 0 matchup outside. Great play--- if you can log the end. Good luck this weekend! If you want to run load the other way, that should be open as well. But now, you have TWO plays. Good luck.
