I saw this play executed at a 6th grade pee-wee game and wanted to get other coaches thoughts about it.
Team A has the ball in its own territory and is losing by a 2 points with about a minute left in the game.
Team A lines up against Team B's defense in a standard formation against a standard (5-3 /6-2 ) defense.
Coach of Team A starts yelling at Team A QB " Hey 'Joey', you've got the wrong ball, you've got the wrong ball, we need to exchange balls - bring that one over here so that we can swap out the balls."
Team A is on the LOS while this yelling is taking place. Center gives ball to QB. QB takes ball and starts walking to coach on sideline.
Coach keeps yelling for the QB to come to sideline to swap gameballs out. QB starts jogging with ball to sideline as coach is yelling.
Team B and Team A (remaining players) just stand still watching all of this, along with refs.
Finally QB turns shoulders near sideline and begins a bit of a jog towards goalline, then, after 10 yards puts on a full sprint with the ball and runs down the sideline and scores.
It takes Team B coach and players about 4 seconds after the QB starts running to figure out what is going on - finally a kid, about 30 yards behind, starts running at QB.
Team A wins game on this play.
I understand from talking with others that Team A practices this play.
Curious as to what other coaches think about 1. the play
2. the coach and his "participation" in the play.
