I was wondering how many concussions your High School teams average per season. We have had about 7 or so this year and it is rather disturbing. We suspect the helmets are inferior...We have already addressed the air issue so I really feel that the culprit may be the headgear. Please respond so we can go to the AD with this.
Coach, If the helmet is manufactured by any reputable company in todays market, and sports a NOCSEE sticker, it should not be the helmet. Companies are very cognizant of the MORAL RESPONSIBILITY of themselves to protect the atheltes that utilize their head gear, and the LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY of doing so looms very large in their eyes. I would check the film very closely and see THE POSITION OF THE ATHLETES HEAD during the collision ( is he "leading" with it, trying to utilize it as a weapon(spearing), etc. 7 concussions during a season on the HS level is very excessive, imo. It certainly is an issue of major concern for you, without doubt, and must be rectified immediately. If it turns out to be the helmet, were they reconditioned or new? If the reconditioner puts the labels on them as required by law, and they are not safe, you can own them in a court of law! Hair line cracks, lots of times are invisible to the naked eye and require special equipment to be detected. Would be very interested to know what you discover is the reason. There may not be one, but in 41 years of coaching I feel that prospect is highly unlikely.

We have about 50 players on the team. We had 4 concussions for sure, but I think we possibly had another that wasn't diagnosed. 4 even seems high to me.
