Coaches - I am an assistant high school coach and would like to pick your brains regarding recruiting. Our league rules do not allow any type of recruiting although we all know it happens. We have an excellent new staff that has taken over a program that has had a rough couple of years. We should finish the season 4-6 which is 2 games better than the previous two combined seasons. In the past, this program has lost many of its prospective football athletes to our neighboring schools. The other schools have been able to lure them away because of our districts open enrollment policy. We do not have a true feeder system here as many teams consist of athletes that will be attending one of three high schools. My question is as follows: How have high school programs worked with you in the past? Please note that we can no longer sponsor team activities. We can only have contact with students that are within our school boundaries or who have already registered with our school.
Please understand that I am not trying to recruit players that should attend another school. I just want to hang on to the student athletes that should be attending our school.
Thanks in advance and hope the season is going well.
Best advice is get as much contact as you can. Talk with players, parents, an dthe coaches. Get to games an dbecome good friends with coaching staff. Use word of mouth about the kids that are suppose ot go to your school to keep them. Kids are liek everyone else they like to know they are wanted and are special.
Thanks Coach. Started visiting games last week and meeting coaches. I have a lot of work to do as I am doing the same thing that our rival down the street has been doing for the past 4 years but you have to start somewhere. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
