Coaches - I am an assistant coach and one of my off-season responsibilities is to develop relationships with the youth coaches. My situation is as follows: We are a new coaching staff that has taken over a program that has done poorly over the past 3 years. Weight training program was non-existent and we play at the highest level and in the toughest league in our state. We have lost many players to neighboring schools before they even attending our school. Despite the hurdles we have already won more games than the past two years combined. Despite our turn around I am still concerned that we may lose athletes to neighboring schools (based on our ball boy telling me that he was deciding between our schools and two others). The other schools have done a good job of recruiting our players from local youth programs (we do not have a true feeder system). The district has recently put out a memo stating that we can no longer sponsor activities that allow us to work with a team that has athletes that live within the boundaries of another school (basically means we cannot sponsor any team activities).
Long story short...is anyone else in this situation or had experience with this? I do not believe in recruiting athletes from another school...I just want to keep the athletes that should be attending our school.
