Midline Vs 4-4:

10 (Midline over R butt cheek of Center):
BST= Anchor to 4i out
BSG= Scoop(or block man on but must get inside leverage)
C= Power step left, give punch to DT on your way to Left inside LB
PSG= Release inside to inside/playside LB or backside LB
PST= Block base or 5 technique out
R Slot= Step inside (between OG & OT) to PSLB
L Slot= Go in motion, at snap of ball come down hill hard between OG & OT looking for OLB. If you want to run it as a true triple option, just have slot run his motion and pitch route.
PS WR= Stalk block DB
BS WR= Cut off deepest defender

Midline Vs 3-3/50 look:
10 (Midline over R butt cheek of Center):
BST= Anchor to 4i out (do not allow inside penetration)
BSG= If no man on or shaded over him, Inside release and combo NG with OC
C= Base block NG
PSG= Release inside to MLB
PST= Block base or 5 technique out
***R Slot= Need to know if PSLB is o/s of OT or in. If o/s, block oslb(the lb o/s of pslb) and qb will pitch off #2(olb). If i/s OT, block pslb and qb will pitch off of olb.
L Slot= Run motion and pitch path
PS WR= Stalk block DB
BS WR= Cut off deepest defender

Our midline rules are:

PST: 2nd DL on the playside (the 1st DL is the dive key, tackle will turn out the 2nd DL) or near LB
PSG: inside (interpreted as 1st defender inside on or off the LOS)
C, BSG: BS 1 and 2 (usually a combo on the BSDT and a BSLB)
BST: seal and hinge (tackle seals inside gaps, then hinges back to pick up BSDE)
PSHB: lead in B-gap (PSLB)
BSHB: orbit, pitch back (although we run it as double option, this action freezes the PSCB)
WR: near safety

VERSUS A 4-4, the play draws up as follows:

PST: turn out on the DE
PSG: inside to PSILB; if he scrapes to the B-gap, find the safety
C, BSG: combo the BSDT and BSILB
BST: seal and hinge on the BSDE
PSHB: lead in B-gap on PSILB; if he plugs the A-gap, find the safety

VERSUS A 3-3, we don't run midline. We run ISV and OSV. Although, recently I have realized that people run the midline at an odd front. How do you block it against a 30 or 50 front? Do you change the RB's path?

Coach Campbell - Thanks for the input. We are working hard in the offseason to fine tune our play calling. Any other thoughst on this from anyone?

From what I've seen and ran in the midline, especially with Navy and Air Force, they make it more of a double option with the FB and QB. Yes they run it with the motion back getting in front of the QB and leading through the B gap whiling the QB is making his FB read. If the QB gets it he follows the motion back. I do think if they make it a triple read the motion back will be the pitch man, instead of leading through B gap.

We have our PSG get to the 1st LB inside on midline and would not stop to block the 2 or 3 tech. The 2 or 3 tech. is our read. If that DT was crashing that hard then the QB would know that right away or make the read and keep it. Sometimes in scouting, etc. you can tell the QB that the DT's like to slant A gap and not even have to do a full fake.

Our PST does block 1st man outside and we do not have a pitchman on our base midline.

I think if you are thinking on adding an option to your list the midline would be a great choice. This site also has many coaches who have used it in different formations or schemes and could really help you. I use the wing-t offensive scheme and we run it primarily out of our Red/Blue formation(TE/wingback-strong and SE/Slotback weakside) . We run it to the TE/WB becasue we usually will get that as the strong front for defenses. We mainly face 4-4 defenses and they will align there 3 tech. to the TE side and that is were you want to attack(3 tech.). On the weaside we will see a 1 tech. or 2/2i tech. and attack that side with triple option(isv). Good luck. You're on the right site for information.

I like the idea of running the offense with a TE. We are primarily a 1-back offense and we have a great TE returning. We were originally looking at a double slot set similar to Navy, but I want to utilize the TE in some of the complimentary play action. I think the TE would aslo make the defense declare a strength and allow a "check with me" system a bit easier for our QB. We too see a lot of even front defenses that will move to the TE. So mid-line the 3 tech and inside veer to the open or 2i side? Would your pitch read then become the OLB to the open side?

Why would you not just arc the TE to the Sam Backer, and pitch off the SS vs. a 4-3 when running ISV? What formation are you running out of Coach Tinglof?
