getting ready to play a team who runs dbl te with one back that runs the ball 85% in that formation. Want to run 9 in the box any suggestions. I'm thinking a head up nose two 3 techs, 2 6techs and both safties head up the te, lbs satcked ove the takles, corners alone.
I attended a clinic in which Florida State's coordinator presented. He considered the formation you described as a run first formation. When facing that front, they set up in a form of a 5-3 with a OLB and strong safety man on the TE's; corners man on #1 receivers; FS is free. One DE and one OLB are 9 techs. I forget the interior techs, but you could play around with those (probably was a 0 tech and two 3 techs or 4i's. Hope this helps.
If Mickey Andrews suggested it, I would definitely go with it! I once sat in a lecture with him that lasted over 3 hours, when I was coaching QB's at Jacksonville Raines High School in Florida. He knows more about defense than most coaches will learn in a life time! Brad Scott was the OC back then and I always attended his lectures, as well, as Marc Richt's who was FSU's QB coach at the time and now is Univ. of Georgia's HC. But, having some free time from offensive lectures our DC and myself went to Mickeys lecture and it was the most indepth, concise, to the point defensive lecture I ever heard. Just my point of view, but I would definitely give whatever suggestions he has to offer, real serious consideration.
