Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
PS: YES - the RB hits TIGHT DOWNHILL immediately after his counter step. He's aiming for the outside leg of ON G, & gets in inside hip of whoever is "WRAPPING" (leading thru hole) - whether it is the "HB" on Counter; BST on Counter (most teams don't use BST anymore), or BSG on Power. He aims INITIALLY for outside lef of ON G - but goes where the "WRAPPER" takes him. THE WRAPPER NORMALL:Y SEALS TIGHT AROUND THE DOUBLE TEAM (ON G & ON T ON DUECE; ON T & ON TE ON TREY) - but either wayd - it isn't over 1 to 2 yds difference!!!!!!!
Below is instruction for RB:
QB: SAME STEPS ON POWER & COUNTER. OPEN TO SIDE RB JAB STEPS & COME BACK TO 5 O'CLOCK (ON COUNTER/POWER LEFT) OR 7 O'CLOCK (ON COUNTER/POWER RIGHT). AFTER HANDOFF — CARRY OUT GREAT BOOT FAKE OPPOSITE P.O.A.
RB: SAME STEPS ON POWER & COUNTER. HARD JAB OPPOSITE P.O.A. — LOOK OFF Lbers. HIT DOWNHILL AT OUTSIDE LEG OF ONSIDE GUARD (RUN TO BUTT OF ONSIDE TACKLE IF HE IS UNCOVERED). PICK UP BLOCK OF OFFSIDE GUARD (ON POWER) OR "H" (ON COUNTER) & KEEP AN INSIDE HIP RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM.
CORRECTION AGAIN (I'M IN SUCH A HURRY I MAKE TYPO MISTAKES). LAST PARAGRAPH IN MY LAST POST ABOVE ("RUN TO BUTT OF ON T IF HE IS COVERED) (I INCORRECTLY SAID "UNCOVERED").
Don't know what else I can tell you about the play. Just about everyone in NFL now features it. Tape a game of an NFL team that runs it, & study the tape. BEST THING to do is get the video by Russ Grimm on "the Redskins Power/Counter series" (what he NOW uses with Steelers - leading the league in rushing). Blackfly73 (who is on the JFC site) has the tape, & will trade it.
Finally - remember this. The B gap & C gap are only about a yard or so apart (width of ON T's stance). So as RB hits downhill & gets on inside hip of WRAPPER - trusting wrapper to lead him thru the first hole (usually tight off down block of ON T on Duece, & TE on Trey) - the hole can vary from 1 to 2 yds. You can't get more precise than that on any NFL play (MOST can cut ANYWHERE)!
