Coaches,
I am currently a college student(studying to be a teacher) and a middle school coach(7th grade). I have some questions on how the whole process of finding a teaching/coaching job goes. When looking for a teaching/coaching job should I just apply to the places that I have heard of that have openings? Or should I call places that I am interested in and ask them if they have job openings? Or should I do both of the above?
Also when applying for a teaching job should I tell them right up front that I want to coach football as well as teach? The reason I ask this is because I dont want to get into a situation where I have a teaching job but not a coaching job. In other words I wont take a teaching job unless I can coach at the school as well.
Some more questions. I know that when you interview for a head coaching job that you are interviewed by the higher ups, school board etc. But when you are being interviewed for a teaching job and an assistant coaching job who all interviews you for the coaching spot? Also who makes the final decision on wheather or not you get the coaching spot? Is it the head coach, administrators or someone else?
I know I have asked a lot of questions but I will really appreciate any help you guys can provide!
Coach, I dont know what size of school you want to teach at nor do I know if you want urban or rural area. I am a 5th year teacher in KS, and I graduated from a small D2 school. That school held a "teacher fair" where they invited area schools with openings to come, and teachers that were looking for jobs to come also. This is where I got my teaching job. The reason why I asked about size and location was around here a smaller school wants to hire combination teacher/coaches, where as the larger schools tend to want more of just the teacher type.
