Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Coach, Aside from the complimentary plays already mentioned, a good option team willl throw the ball at least 8-10 times a game. It is my opinion that when a true option team throws the ball, it should be off of well designed play action (off option action in other words). For a QB to line up in a conventional passing formation and try to establish any kind of a rhythem is very difficult. I was the QB coach at a large school in Florida where went 33-3 at one point running the bone. We threw an average of 8-12 times a night, but we worked faithfully each day in practice on our passing game, which consisted mainly of a 3 step drop passing game that put both wideouts in the pattern running mirror routes, in order to be ready when we were caled upon to throw it. As a testament to that work ethic, our QB went 7 for 7 one night for 161 yds. and 2 touchdowns. We won by a field goal with less than 20 seconds to go in the game. The point being, have a well designed play action passing game ready to roll when you need it. s always, just a suggestion.

We run alot of option fromthe I formation. We run outside veer, dive option, and lead option. We also run power, toss sweep, and iso. Finally we have 2 counters. I agree with TigerONe that your hvae got to be able to throw roughly 10x a game. Our most effective PAP was a little dump to the TE or a streak to the Flanker. I also think a little 3step game now and then does not hurt especially if you get behind.

With an I option attack it gives you an unbalanced set for a defense especially with the tight end in the game, this is what makes the "I"option so effective. A defense must balance. Coach CAmpbell
