The half man advantage rule is a term used to help teach an inside postion advantage for your offensive linemen when teaching dropback protection. An offensive lineman should always work for the inside out postion on any defender who rushes the QB on dropback protection. The half man advantage puts a blocker splitting a rusher with his outside foot to the mid point of the rusher. Centers and guards are responsible for the depth of the pocket and offensive tackles for the width of the pocket. Coach CAmpbell

The following are discriptive terms that I use for teaching dropback protection pass technique.
1. When pass setting your shoulders should aways my opposite the punch, shoulders should never follow the punch. 2. Must maintain an inside out position using the half man advantage. 3. Pound the nail with the back of the helmet. This helps in teach getting the shoulders and head back faster (hammer the nail) 4. Punch up, not out. When pass setting don't teach your lineman to punch out but punch up. The focus of the punch should be to the top of the jersey number of the down defende By punching up instead of punching out helps you set your hips underneath you. 5. Look up through the window; helps the punch up instead of punching out. When an offensive lineman brings his hands together for the punch he should look up through the punch instead of out through the punch. 6. Create the triangle.

InThe Trenches - great to have you back. Set the anchor is a descriptive term I use to set the outside foot back when working pass protection. Set the anchor comes off the 1/2 man advantage. The anchor helps slow the bull rush down. Coach CAmpbell
