The word "Trap" alerts the backside guard or tackle that they will be pulling playside, crossing the centers butt and kicking out or logging an over penetrating defender. The difference between a "G" scheme and a "Trap" cheme is that on trap a backside linemen pulls and on a "G" scheme the playside guard pulls. Coach CAmpbell
We prepared for one of our opponents with the "G" scheme this year, but didn't end up usuing it. We were facing a 4-3 cover two with a 3 and 9. Tight Tackle down on the 3, PSG kicking out 9. TE releases and walls Mike. FB leads to Sam. QB opens to the playside with iso footwork. Tailbacks aims for outside leg of guard and runs between the downblock of the tackle, and the kickout of the guard. We ended up running midline and veer most of this game, didn't call the "G", looked good in practice. We called it 44-45 "G" Lead.
Another great scheme against that is a what we called a lead gap. It is run to the weakside. Playside down to 1st backer across his face. Center back on the 3. Guard down on 1. Fullback kicks out end. Backside guard and tackle pull and lead through hole. QB and TB run Counter gap.
You can also try the "G" scheme on midline...if the guard is covered, g the playside DE, send playside tackle to near LB and if you have a TE release to #4....if the tackle is covered...then "switch" call and have the guard take the playside LB and the tackle block out on the DE...we have used them scheme and has worked well.

Good question...versus a 4-3 we ask our center to block mike, tackle to block sam and still g block the de. We don't use a TE normally...but versus a 3 and 9 tech...this scheme is not a good play. There are a few options assuming we have a back as an extra blocker...we take the TE and block out on the DE, we can send the tackle and guard underneath to the mike (this is a "special scheme" when we double on mike), run the center at mike and pick will. If we don't use the back...then we send the tackle to Sam and the rip the guard to Mike and block out the DE with the TE.
