Duke, exactly to what are you alluding when you use the term "universal" option blocking rules? Are they just a set of basic rules that are always used in each option or what?

I would still like to know what you guys are alluding to as "Universal Option Blocking Rules". Shoot, we don't even have a "universal Terminology" in Football, how is there going to be a set of universal blocking rules that cover all options? Option football was designed for an undersized offensive line that could not deal with the bigger defensive lines of the day, features a combo block at the point of attack where a smaller OLM can get help from his team mate with a bigger DLM. Thats about as "universal" as it gets in my experience. I am really very much interested in seeing these rules. Could you please post them here on the forum for all of us to see? I, for one, would really appreciate your time in doing so. Thanking you for that time in advance.

We have some "universal rules", although I'm not sure if this is what people are looking for...
Power and Blast Series: We tell our OL to block "On", "Gap", and "Over" in the following order: #1 Man across from you #2 If no man across from you, block a man in the gap #3 If no man on you or no man in the gap, block "over" to second level - LB or DB.
For traps: Trap the first man past the hole. If the man across from you is the man getting trapped, either double down or cross the face of the guy who is getting trapped and get to an LB.
Blocking back for a pulling O-lineman: If the guards pull, C only blocks back if the pulling guard was covered and we are in a single-back set.
Option: TE will either double down with the tackle or cross the face of the DE for triple option. Last defensive player before the hash is the guy who gets optioned.
Coach, Could I get a copy of your blocking rules and audible system. Second year line coach and just implemented option into our option. Thanks, Coach D Money
