Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We have done it to get blocking leverage on an end or backer. You know, if the TE is a regular TE, then occasionally you'll get a 9 technique, but a lot of times when we stood him up and flexed him about 4 yards, the lineman would get down as a 5 technique, and we would have the TE outside of the lineman and the LBs. The Z (flanker) for us is tight and just outside the TE and can be used as another blocker to further wash everything down inside. Ours is pretty much the basic "bunch" alignment. We can just also do it as a 2 x 2 set or as a 2 back set (You do not have the #3 receiver on the bunch side either of these ways.).
The disadvantage is that it could create a run-through lane for a LB.

There are times that you do not want that extra body (to many arses in the hole) in the c gap, so by flexing out the Y end to more than three yds, he now becomes the SS/OLB responsibility. The DE will align on his outside shoulder up to a 3 yd. flex, but any more than that he will come right back in and align as a 5 tech on your PST. It is called the 3 yd. rule.
